2019 Reserve Grenache

93 Points - Vinous
"Deep ruby-red. Spice-tinged red and blue fruit preserve, incense and floral scents show sharp definition and pick up a smoky mineral flourish with air. In an energetic style, offering juicy Chambord, blueberry, spicecake and lavender pastille flavors that deepen through the back half. Smooth tannins add gentle grip to the long, floral-tinged finish, which strongly echoes the red fruit and spice notes. 75% aged in concrete eggs and the rest in a new, 500L French Oak puncheon." Josh Raynolds

-----------------

A parcel of Grenache was planted at the peak of the Calcareous Estate in 2014.  Farmed in the traditional head-trained pruning style, the Grenache was bordered by rows of Mourvedre and Syrah.  The grapes are picked together and co-fermented creating a wine that is 90% Grenache with 5% each of Syrah and Mourvedre.  The wine was aged for 20 months in a combination of large concrete egg shaded tanks and 500L new French Oak puncheons.  This is our first-ever bottling of wine produced from exclusively that site as well as aged in concrete.  These factors and the resulting wine itself is what deemed this a Reserve tier wine.

Tasting Notes
Shows elegant purple hues in the glass and exudes strawberries and cream on the nose. Luxurious soft textures upfront build with mix of red berries and darker fruit. Mildly spiced tannins lead to a clean finish which allows a wide range of pairing options. An age worthy Grenache that should complex nicely for next 10+ years
