2022 Lily Blanc

The Lily Blanc is envisioned as the counterpart to our flagship Estate red Rhone blend, Tres Violet. The strengths of these 3 varietals play perfectly together. Grenache Blanc adds mid-palate depth while Roussanne is known for the golden richness and full-bodied palate. Picpoul, French for "lip sting" offers a beautifully clean and refreshing finish, allowing this blend to embody the full gamut of white wine experience.

Tasting Notes
Showing a crystalline pale white gold color while exuding rich aromas of cantaloupe, spring flowers and wet stone. The Roussanne dominates the upfront palate providing richness and weight. The Grenache and Picpoul quickly counter this with ample bright acidity bringing focus to more summer stone fruit character.

Vineyard Notes
The 2022 Lily Blanc comes completely from our neighbor Glenrose. Sitting just across Peachy Canyon Road from our Estate Vineyard, Glenrose contains similar chalky soils and an almost identical climate. This gives these Rhone varietals a perfect ripe profile that is backed by acid necessary for a balanced white. 2022 was the earliest vintage on record as far as picking date goes. These early ripening conditions helped create white wines with marked freshness and clean acidic cores
Winemaker Notes
Each lot was fed directly into our press upon receival, then underwent a long but gentle 3-hour press cycle. The juice was racked to a tank and cooled for 24 hours to settle out heavy lees. The juice was then racked to a blend of 500L puncheons and 470-gallon concrete eggs and allowed to warm up to start fermenting. After completion of primary fermentation, the lots were combined and aged in concrete egg and French oak puncheons, 30% of which was new.

Food Pairing Notes
The 2022 Lily Blanc allows for a surprisingly wide ranging successful food pairings. The upfront richness can play perfectly with richer butter-tinged seafood dishes and cream sauce pastas. The clean acidic finish helps these dishes immensely while also allowing this wine to pair with summer salads, soft cheeses and roast chicken.
