2021 Lily Blanc

The Lily Blanc is envisioned as the counterpart to our flagship Estate red Rhone blend, Tres Violet. The strengths of these 3 varietals play perfectly together. Viognier offers very pretty aromatics and upfront bright fruit. Grenache Blanc adds mid-palate depth while Roussanne is known for the golden richness and full-bodied finish.

Tasting Notes
Hints of citrus and stone fruit dominate the nose of this White Rhône blend. The concrete fermented Grenache Blanc and Viognier build a bright core to the wine and an elevated minerality This interaction creates lively back and forth between rich textures and clean summer fruit that keeps evolving. The puncheon aged Roussanne adds a rich weightiness and just a hint of mild French oak.

Vineyard Notes
The 2021 Lily Blanc comes completely from our neighbor Glenrose. Sitting just across Peachy Canyon Road from our Estate Vineyard, Glenrose contains similar chalky soils and an almost identical climate. This gives these Rhone varietals a perfect ripe profile that is backed by acid necessary for a balanced white. 2021 was picture perfect for white Rhone varietals. Bright fruit character developed early allowing us to pick with beautiful acidity.
Winemaker Notes
Each lot was fed directly into our press upon receival, then underwent a long but gentle 3-hour press cycle. The juice was racked to a tank and cooled for 24 hours to settle out heavy lees. The juice was then racked to a blend of 500L puncheons and 470-gallon concrete eggs and allowed to warm up to start fermenting. After completion of primary fermentation, the lots were combined and aged in concrete egg and French oak puncheons.
