2018 Lily Blanc
A deeply golden hue and upfront perfectly weighted Roussanne establishes a richly textured white wine filled with pear and brioche. Surprisingly brighter and more angular notes from Grenache Blanc and Viognier quickly balance the rich mouthfeel as peach and honeysuckle elevate the whole palate towards a proper clean finish. A chilled glass of Lily Blanc is the perfect complement to pan seared scallops with just a hint of spicy heat.
The 2018 Lily Blanc comes completely from our neighbor Glenrose. Sitting just across Peachy Canyon Road from our Estate Vineyard, Glenrose contains similar chalky soils and an almost identical climate. This gives these Rhone varietals a perfect ripe profile that is backed by acid necessary for a balanced white. These factors truly shined during the 2018 vintage which may go down as the next landmark year for the region. Each season played its role perfectly, being one of the years that makes winemaking a pure joy as it was easy to get out of the way and just let the fruit make itself into almost perfect wine.
Each lot was fed directly into our press upon receival, then underwent a long but gentle 3-hour press cycle. The juice was racked to a tank and cooled for 24 hours to settle out heavy lees. The juice was then racked to 500L puncheons and allowed to warm up and start fermenting. After completion of primary fermentation, the lots were combined and put together early to allow the wine
to age as a finished blend.
