2017 Kate's Zinfandel

Zinfandel was always synonymous with Paso Robles. Its distinctive big fruit and easy charm is embedded in the local winemaking spirit. Our Kate’s Vineyard Zinfandel has been a staple our Estate bottlings and a constant reminder that wine is meant, above all, to embody joy and pleasure.

Wine Story

Vineyard Notes
Kate’s Vineyard consist of 10 acres planted entirely to Zinfadel that we have farmed since 2004. Located less than a mile south east of the Calcareous Estate, it shares almost identical chalky soils. The warm summer of 2017 shows up in the deep purple color and massive fruit of this wine. These vintages are perfect for Paso Robles Zinfandel.
Winemaker Notes
The fruit was handpicked and cluster sorted before destemming. The fruit was gravity fed, uncrushed, into 4-ton open top concrete fermenters. Twice daily pump overs were performed for the first 8 days of frementaion, followed by a move to a punch-down protocol. After 12 days, the juice was pressed off the skins and settled in tank for 2 days. From here, the wine was racked to barrel and allowed to finish malo-lactic fermentation. Another racking was performed and a bit of our Estate Cabernet was blended in to add structure. The resulting wine was aged 16 months in 20% new American oak. Bottled unfined with only coarse filtration to remove lees at the last possible moment.
