Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Full of dark currants and blueberry layered upon smoky tannin with beautiful core acidity. Still mellowing into its prime this wine is just now approachable and should age well for 12-14 years.
Vinous - Glass-staining ruby. Deep, smoke-accented aromas of ripe dark berries, cola and violet, along with a suave mineral overtone that adds urgency. Fleshy blackberry and blueberry flavors show excellent concentration and clarity. Picks up a sweet cola note on the back half. Finishes impressively long and smooth, displaying a candied dark berry note and round, harmonious tannins. -- Josh Raynolds
Vineyard Notes
The chalky soils of the Calcareous Vineyard produce fruit forward wines balanced by firm backbones of tannin and acid. This play between richness and structure is most prominent in the Bordeaux varietals and especially in this blend. The extreme heat of the 2015 vintage actually slowed down ripening of the fruit, thus wines produced that year tend to have strong tannic structure and earthier fruit elements.
Winemaker Notes
Each of these varietals ripen at a different time in the vineyard, thus each is handled separately during harvest, with blending taking place after completion of primary fermentation. This form of treatment also allows for a full sensory evaluation of the young wines before they are deemed acceptable for inclusion in the Lloyd blend. Bordeaux varietals demand an oxygen rich environment for fermentation, thus each lot was open top fermented with twice daily pump-overs and delastage performed as necessary to fully realize extraction. After pressing, free-run and press fractions were evaluated for proper balance and were then combined to form a final blend for aging.

This is a fine wine. It is only going to get better with age, if I can let it do so.
